Can tiles be installed over existing tiles?

Only after the existing finish, bond, levels, added weight and finished heights are assessed. Removing the old finish may be the safer scope where the substrate cannot be verified.

Do large-format and natural-stone tiles need different preparation?

They can require tighter substrate tolerances, specific adhesives, handling and sealing. The product and substrate specifications should be agreed before installation.

The per-square-metre rate is a genuine entry point, but preparation, tile size and type, layout, cuts, access, waterproofing and movement joints can materially change the total. Ask for a written quote based on the measured surfaces and actual tile specification.

What “from €34/m²” means

It is the minimum tiling rate for a straightforward scope. Substrate repairs, removal, levelling, membranes, waterproofing, complex patterns, specialist tiles and difficult access are assessed for the actual job and recorded in the quote.

What a comparable tiling quote should show

What the price depends on

Tile size & type — large-format and natural stone are slower to set and less forgiving, so they cost more.

Why preparation is most of the job
